Since the kids and their partners were against the idea of injuring one who once was their ally, they tried their hardest to make the Demon Lord see reason. This hesitation caused Beelzemon to rapidly gain the advantage, culminating inLeomon being mortally wounded and dying,following the dark tradition of mostDigimonshows. Jeri, his tamer, became inconsolable, unable to cope with the passing of her dear companion.
Seeing her in such a state caused Takato to release all his rage,forcing his once friendly and kind Guilmon to evolve into the terrifying Megidramon. This creature, known as the Evil Dragon of the Digital World, did not hesitate to furiously attack Beelzemon, not giving him a single moment to rest. Afraid of seeing his partner act like a rampaging beast, Takato tried to calm Megidramon down, to no avail. If not for the sudden appearance of Makuramon inthe amazing episode #35, one of the powerful Devas, Beelzemon would have died during this intense combat.
While the anime made it clear that Megidramon was a danger to the heroes, it did not go in-depth into the horrifying lore that this monster hides.The official reference book of theDigimonfranchisestates that this dragon-like creature is considered the evilest of his kind, causing fear even among the rulers of the Digital World. Takato’s Rage Could Have Ended It All

In episode #35, Beelzemon barely overpowered Megidramon after absorbing the energy of Makuramon, Rapidmon, and Taomon. This was a necessary lesson not only for the protagonist but his allies as well, as they realized that raw power was not the answer to their problems.
The battle against Megidramon and Gallantmon, Gulmon’s other evolution which is often associated with the outstandingly powerful Royal Knights, also served as a wake-up call for Beelzemon. He understood the error of his ways, returning to his original Tamers and becoming a vital part of the final battle against the trauma-inducing D-Reaper. Despite its potential danger, Megidramon’s appearance was essential for the characters to grow as individuals and be prepared to face the final antagonist. The dragon’s rampage might have been brief, but it will never be forgotten by fans of this incredible show.
