It’s an exciting time to be a Superman fan. Not only is there a highly-anticipated movie set to be released in just a few months, but to capitalize on the excitement, DC Comics is launching the"Summer of Superman" initiative. The initiativewill see the publication of new ongoing series likeSuperman Unlimitedas well as special releases likeSuperman: The World. DC Comics has promised that the iconic hero was going to be celebrated all summer long, all the way up to the film’s release and beyond, exciting fans eager to see more of the Man of Tomorrow.

It’s a surprise to see DC willing to go back and visitSuperman’s past as Superboy(for a while, this period was de-canonized, causing a small continuity headache). But Clark’s time as Superboy is an interesting time as it was fun to see a young Superman grow and learn what it means to be a hero. Not to mention, Waid is a huge fan of classic DC lore, making him the perfect person to give Superman’s Superboy days a modern flair.DC’s doing a lot to build up Superman’s future, making now the best time to revisit Clark’s past.

It’s Finally Superboy’s Time to Shine!

What’s great about this “Summer of Superman” initiative is that it recognizes that there’s more to the Man of Steel than just his powers or villains. DC Comics is also celebrating his allies like Supergirl and Krypto in their own books, so why not revisit a time that helped turn Superman into the hero he is today? The idea of exploring Superboy in a modern sense is a fantastic idea and, with the world’s attention turning to the Last Son of Krypton, it’s a great time to show everyone the adventures that helped turn him intoSuperman.
