Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Creature Commandos episode 4Creature Commandosepisode 4 features several exciting Easter eggs and features, many of which connect to the greaterDCUin some major ways. While the focus of this new chapter is very much on the past and origins of Weasel (Sean Gunn), it also looks forward to a very dark future. As such, there are some very cool character debuts and nods to DC Comics as well as the brand-new DC Universe that’s just begun.

As was seen inCreature Commandosepisode 3, Task Force M successfully took down the Amazonian witch Circe (Anya Chalotra), only to be told that they’d just doomed the world by preventing her from killing Princess Ilana Rotovic (Maria Bakalova). Now,Creature Commandoslargely takes place back at Belle Reve before Amanda Waller gives her monsters brand-new orders to go back to Pokolistan and do exactly what they’d just prevented Circe from doing.Keeping that in mind, here are the biggest Easter eggs and references we found inCreature Commandosepisode 4.

David Corenswet’s Superman and Krypto with the DCEU’s Justice League

9Task Force X’s John Economos

John’s Injuries Are From Peacemaker Season 1

Having been featured in both 2021’sThe Suicide Squadand 2022’sPeacemakerseason 1,Task Force X’s John Economos (Steve Agee) debuts in animation and is featured working at Belle Reve. Shown trying to ward off Weasel’s lawyer, Economos is using a crutch, though the lawyer doesn’t believe his claim that he injured his leg while fighting off an alien invasion. This is a reference to the events ofPeacemakerseason 1, where Economos was part of the team taking on the secret alien infiltrating the planet known as the Butterflies.

8Weasel’s Lawyer, Elizabeth Bates

Voiced By Linda Cardellini

Weasel’s lawyer is Elizabeth Bates, a character from the original DC Comics who first appeared in 1940’s Hit Comics #4 as a lawyer in New York. She’s also voiced by Linda Cardellini, who voiced the Rocket Racoon’s otter friend named Lyla in James Gunn’sGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. She also played Hawkeye’s wife Laura in the MCU, and Velma in James Gunn’slive-actionScooby-Doomovies.

7Maleficent, Hocus Pocus, Glinda

All Kinds of Witchy References For Circe

With Circe in custody at Belle Reve, multiple witch references and jokes are made at her expense. Firstly, Amanda says they’re charging Circe with"first-degree witchy-poo and Maleficent in the second degree.“Economos then chimes in with"and Bette Midler in that one movie in the third degree"to which Flag clarifies that John’s talking about the Disney movieHocus Pocus. Later on, Waller questions why Circe would attempt to save the world, seeing how her resume doesn’t exactly back up the"Glinda the Good Witch routine”, a reference toWizard of Oz(and of course,Wicked).

6"I Know It’s Hip to Be A Superhero These Days"

Confirming Multiple Heroes in the DCU

Waller continues questioning Circe’s altruism and claims she was trying to save the world by saying she knows"it’s hip to be a superhero these days.“This confirms the existence of other superpowered people in the DCU, such as David Corenswet’s Superman and more heroes who will soon make their debut in James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DC Universe.

5Circe’s Dark Vision in Creature Commandos Episode 4

Full Of DCU Heroes and Villains (Both Cast and Uncast)

Showing Amanda Waller the vision she received as a clairvoyant, Circe reveals a dark future that will be triggered by Ilana if she’s not stopped, offering first looks at multiple DCU characters who’ve been cast with live-action actors, and even those who haven’t yet.To that end, here’s every character and major reveal found in Circe’s vision inCreature Commandosepisode 4:

It now makes sense why Circe gathered the Sons of Themyscria to help her invade Pokolistan. Confirming that “even the devil doesn’t want to see the world die”,Circe was trying to prevent the dark future she saw. To that end, Amanda Waller now has the same fears held by Circe inCreature Commandosepisode 4, hence her decision to send Task Force M back to Pokolistan to do the very thing they just prevented Circe from doing: killing Princess Rostovic.

Rick Questions Circe’s Vision in Creature Commandos Episode 4

4A Jedi Mind Trick?

Gotta Love A Star Wars Reference In The DCU

Visibly and surprisingly shaken, Amanda Waller is completely rattled by what she’s seen from Circe. However,Rick Flag claims that the witch must have messed with her mind as a “Jedi mind trick”,a reference to theStar Warsfranchise and a Jedi’s ability to influence the mind using the Force. However, Waller is convinced that what she saw was legitimate.

3Is Isla McPherson Setting Up DC’s Wonder Woman/Amazon Show?

Voiced By Stephanie Beatriz (Setting UpParadise Lost?)

Calling in an expert,Doctor Isla McPherson is brought in to validate what Waller saw. Hailing from the comics, the DCU’s McPherson is a professor with expertise in all things Amazon, and as such she helps confirm the legitimacy of Circe’s clairvoyance and her vision of the DCU’s dark future. Voiced by Stephanie Beatriz, one has to wonder if McPherson may soon debut in live-action, considering thatDC Studios does have aParadise Lostseries in development.

2More Monster Inmates At Belle Reve

Congorilla and She-Bat

Shown in the Belle Reve cafeteria, The Bride, Nina, and Doctor Phosphorous encounter Congorilla and what looks to be She-Bat aka Francine Langstrom (wife of Man-Bat). In the original comics, Congorilla was a hero and even a one-time member of the Justice League, so this appears to be a very different take on the character who quickly loses his jaw thanks to The Bride as he had been harassing Nina. Ironically, he’s also the second talking gorilla DC character to be shown in this episode, following Gorilla Grodd in Circe’s vision.

1Eric’s Romantic Movie References

Titanic/When Harry Met Sally

At the end ofCreature Commandosepisode 4, Eric attacks Rick Flag who refuses to help Waller kill Ilana. Acting as the jealous, spurned lover, Eric believes that Flag has stolen The Bride from him. After Rick Flag manages to convince Eric Frankenstein that he and The Bride are not romantically involved, the two eventually sit down to talk.

Creature Commandos Cast & DC Character Guide

Creature Commandos will kick off James Gunn’s new DC Universe with an animated TV series including some of the weirdest DC Comics characters.

After Flag shares his concerns about Ilana and Waller’s plans to have her killed to prevent the dark future,Eric looks to be all in on Rick and the princess' “love story”, comparing it to what he believes are little-known romance movies such asTitanicandWhen Harry Met Sally(hilariously two of the most popular romance films of all time). At any rate, it does seem as though Eric and Rick will be teaming up to step Task Force M from killing the princess, while also giving Eric the chance to reunite with “his” Bride once more.
