The powerful aristocrat was established in season 1 as a major threat, capable of potentially dooming humanity by reaching godhood. With the aid of her loyal servant Drota Tzuements and their legions of the undead, the pair proved to be powerful and cunning enough to defeat some of the most powerfulcharacters ofCastlevania: Nocturne.
Season 2 continues that plotline by delving intothe origins of ErzsebetBáthoryand Drota, including some big surprises about the latter’s true intentions and plans. It turns out the scheme to bring about the restoration of the Egyptian goddess Sekhmet goes back far further than the French Revolution. Erzsebet Báthory Was Chosen By Drota Tzuements To Drink The Blood Of Sekhmet
Drota Has Been Looking For Erzsebet For A Long Time
One of the big twists inCastlevania: Nocturneseason 2 is the revelation that Drota Tzuements is the one who manipulated Erzsebet Báthory into wanting to become the reincarnation of Sekhmet. Despite being set up as the vampire messiah and established as the central antagonist ofCastlevania: Nocturne, Erzsebet Báthory is not the actual final villain of the season. In reality, the scheme to bring about a new version of Sekhmet was set in motion by Drota, who is actually one of the oldest characters intheCastlevaniatimeline.
“There Was Good In Him:” Castlevania Just Made Dracula’s Death Even More Heartbreaking 7 Years Later
Castlevania: Nocturne season 2 referenced the previous show’s best episode and made Dracula’s death at the hands of Alucard even more heartbreaking.
Born in ancient Egypt where she served as a priestess of Sekhmet before becoming a vampire,Drota committed herself to bringing the goddess Sekhmet back to Earth in a new mortal vessel. After centuries of trying different candidates for reincarnation, Drota was disappointed by their inability to survive the effects that consuming Sekhmet’s blood had on them. However, she found a new potential candidate in Erzsebet, leading Drota to the aristocrat in the first place.

Drota Was The One Who Turned Erzsebet Báthory Into A Vampire
“Monstrous Things” Reveals How Drota Came To Erzsebet In The First Place
While audiences initially assumed that it had been Erzsebet who turned Drota into a vampire, the opening scene of “Monstrous Things” reveals that it was actually the other way around. Having heard of the atrocities committed by Erzsebet and the numerous bodies that lay in her wake,Drota decided that Erzsebet could be an ideal candidate to house the spirit of Sekhmet. This completely changes their dynamic, as season 1 largely indicates that Drota was a loyal friend and servant to Erzsebet. Ersebet’s grief over Drota’s apparent death suggested they were genuinely close friends.
Erzsebet was a pawn in Drota’s overarching plans to restore her goddess to the mortal plane.

In reality,Erzsebet was a pawn in Drota’s overarching plans to restore her goddess to the mortal plane. Dutifully playing the role of friend and servant, Drota was able to inspire Erzsebet’s “plans” to become the true vampire messiah. While she’s initially pleased with the result, an empowered Annette is able to draw shards of the power from within Erzsebet and weaken her. This leads Drota to murder Erzsebet and consume the power for herself, turning her into the actual final villain ofCastlevania: Nocturneseason 2 (and the first season by extension).
How The Goddess Sekhmet Reincarnated In Erzsebet Báthory In Castlevania
Alucard And Drota Have Been Hunting Down The Same Body
The restoration of Sekhmet requires multiple steps, starting with finding a host capable of withstanding the power within Sekhmet’s blood. It takes centuries for Drota to find someone capable of even surviving that power. That is where Erzsbet factors into the plans of the ancient vampire, as Drota is finally confident she has found someone who can consume the blood. While Erzsebet began her transformation into Sekhmet in season 1,they require the heart of the Egyptian goddess' mummy to fully complete the restoration.
This leads to the primary events of “Monstrous Things,” where Drota is able to combat Alucard and make off with the mummy. Despite his efforts to locate the mummy before her, Alucard ultimately fails to keep it from her. Once Erzsebet consumes the heart, she’s able to fully become an embodiment of Sekhmet. However, the goddess is incomplete, asanother aspect of her ends up controlling Annette to help Trevor to bring down Erzsbet and Drota. This leads to the climactic conflict inCastlevania: Nocturneseason 2, which ends with Sekhmet restored in the astral plane and Drota dead.
