Two perfect replacement teams for theAvengershave already been set up in theMCU, but both of them have the same huge problem to overcome. Despite being central to the MCU during the Infinity Saga, the Avengers team has been absent from the franchise ever since Thanos was defeated during the Battle of Earth inAvengers: Endgame. Anew version of the Avengersis expected to form soon, perhaps as early as 2025’sCaptain America: Brave New World, but Marvel Studios has also established a number of new superhero teams.

Trailers forCaptain America: Brave New Worldconfirmed thatPresident Ross will urge Sam Wilson to rebuild the Avengers, prompting speculation that a new version of the team will be seen in the Phase 5 movie. It will be great to see the MCU’s newest heroes recruited to the new Avengers team, but it’s likely that the well-known team will be joined by new superhero groups inAvengers: DoomsdayandSecret Wars. In the recent absence of the Avengers, Marvel Studios has set up twomajor Avengers replacement teams, though both have their own problems.

The MCU Has Set Up 2 Avengers Replacement Teams Already

Marvel Studios Has Set Up The Thunderbolts & Young Avengers

The Avengers have been missing from the entirety of the Multiverse Saga, making space for solo movies and Disney+ shows to develop new heroes. Some of these new heroes have been on the younger side, spurring speculation that Marvel is building towards bringing together theYoung Avengers team in the MCU.The ending of 2023’sThe Marvelsconfirmed this set-up, as Kamala Khan’s Ms. Marvel met with Kate Bishop’s Hawkeye with the prospect of bringing together a team of their own, and a number of other heroes have since been teased to join the Young Avengers' roster.

While the upcoming formation of the Young Avengers is a very exciting concept for the MCU, shifting the focus onto the future of the franchise,Marvel Studios has also looked to the MCU’s history to create a new team of antiheroes and reformed villains. Including Bucky Barnes' Winter Soldier, Yelena Belova, Alexei Shostakov’s Red Guardian, Ava Starr’s Ghost, John Walker’s US Agent and Antonia Dreykov’s Taskmaster, theThunderbolts will debut in their eponymous 2025 movie. Both these formidable teams are set to fight alongside the Avengers in Phase 6, but have one particular issue to overcome first.

Forget The Thunderbolts Nonsense, The Young Avengers Name Doesn’t Make Sense Either

Neither The Thunderbolts Nor The Young Avengers Have Finalized Their Team Name

Thefirst trailers forThunderbolts*have shown that the team will struggle for quite some time deciding exactly what to call themselves. The origin of the Thunderbolts name hasn’t yet been revealed, and the asterisk in the movie’s official title seems to suggest that this will be changed over the course of the 2025 movie. The Thunderbolts name seems to come from nowhere in Marvel Comics, and has no connection to Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, so Marvel Studios needs to figure out a new explanation for this name in the MCU.

Similarly, it’s unclear where the Young Avengers' name will come from, or if the team will even call themselves the Young Avengers. The Marvelsteamed up Kamala Khan with Carol Danvers' Captain Marvel and Monica Rambeau, and it was Kamala who gave this short-lived team its name of the Marvels. It seems likely that Kamala Khan will do the same for the Young Avengers, particularly since she is an Avengers super-fan, and would love to be affiliated with the team somehow. However, this may not make sense for thecurrent suspected line-up of Young Avengers.

What Else The Young Avengers Could Be Called

Speculation Suggests The Young Avengers May Be Renamed

Kamala Khan mentioned wanting to bring together young superheroes inThe Marvels, though Kate Bishop responded that she is already 23-years-old, which raises the question about whetherthe team’s possible members are already too old to be consideredYoungAvengers. Compared to the original Avengers team, theYoung Avengers are considerably younger, all in their late teens or early 20s. This means the Young Avengers name would actually make a lot of sense, though there has recently been speculation that the team will assume a different name.

Original Avengers Detail Spells Trouble For The MCU’s Newest Team-Up Movie

The MCU has finally confirmed an exciting new team-up project that’s been teased for years, but the timing presents a bit of an awkward problem.

If it’s still Kamala Khan who names the team in the MCU’s upcoming projects, she could still choose a derivative of theoriginal Avengers team. This young group could perhaps become the New Avengers, perhaps allowing the adult team to adopt the Mighty Avengers moniker from Marvel Comics. It’s also possible the Young Avengers could be introduced to the MCU as the Champions, a team which comprised disillusioned teenage heroes in Marvel Comics, all of whom left theirAvengersmentors to become bona fide heroes themselves, which could seem appropriate for the emerging MCU team.
