The Mummyreboot has reportedly found its lead actor as the movie’s filming timeline details are revealed. After the success of the 1999 movie starring Brendan Fraser, two direct sequels and a 2017 reboot starring Tom Cruise would follow. The franchise lay dormant after Cruise’s reboot failed to perform, butEvil Dead Rise(2023)director Lee Cronin is now set to write and direct a new reboot ofThe Mummyfor Blumhouse and Atomic Monster, with the New Line Cinema film first announced in December 2024 with a release date set for Aug 10, 2025.
THRnow reports that actorJack Reynor will star in Cronin’sThe Mummyreboot. The report also claims that filming will begin on the movie next week in Ireland. Though there are no official story details just yet,THRnotes that Reynor will be playing “a husband and father who runs afoul of supernaturally sinister forces.”
Atomic Monster and Blumhouse are co-financing the project, with Jason Blum, James Wan, and John Keville producing. Cronin’s Doppelgängers banner is also producing. Michael Clear, Judson Scott, and Macdara Kelleher are executive producing the reboot, with Alayna Glasthal overseeing for Atomic Monster.

Cronin has since confirmed the start of production onThe Mummywith a post on Instagram. The image shows a clapperboard for the film and has the caption, “Day 1”.

Though Cruise was obviously a major star when he appeared in 2017’sThe Mummy, Fraser was not when he made his debut as adventurer Rick O’Connell. Reynor’s casting suggests that Cronin is taking a similar approach with his reboot,choosing not to rely on a big name to draw audiences.

He memorably starred opposite Florence Pugh in 2019’sMidsommaras Christian.The Irish actor also played Shane inTransformers: Age of Extinction(2014), with other notable credits includingSing Street(2016), andFree Fire(2016), and he also appeared as part of thecast ofThe Perfect Couple(2024), a hit Netflix series from last year. With Reynor having joinedThe Mummyreboot and with filming set to get underway next week, more cast announcements could be on the way in the near future.
