Lunala ex is a weird card to build a deck around inPokémon TCG Pocket—not only because you need to evolve it from a Cosmog to a second-stage evolution to get it on the field, but because there are already so many good Psychic-type decks that it makes it difficult to warrant using it when Gardevoir, Mew, etc, exist as better support picks.

While its ability to take Psychic energy from any benched Pokémon and put it all on an active Pokémon is great for recovery jobs and switching up the battlefield, it feels like there are faster and better decks out there that make Lunala ex less useful. If it had been a singular card without evolutions, it would have more practical benefits, I feel. But that doesn’t mean it’s useless.

If you do feel like taking Lunala ex for a spin and want to try a fun deck, check out the one below—maybe just don’t take it into ranked play, though.

Essentially, what I have done with this deck istake a Giratina ex core and added Lunala ex, not just to have a slapped together deck—but because it works.

Rare Candy lets you skip evolving your Cosmog into Cosmeon, which lets you get Lunala ex out faster and gives your Giratina ex time to get Psychic energy building. If you get two, you can divide the energy between both of them and then use Lunala ex to transfer the energy onto the Active or healthier one, giving you the chance to constantly switch out your Pokémon to potentially stop a K.O. early on.

The biggest downside this deck has, though, is the heavy use of ex Pokémon. With the introduction ofOricorio (Electric-type)in Celestial Guardians, ex Pokémon-only decks are no longer viable. You can slap down the Oricorio and, thanks to its ability, take no damage from any ex attacksat all, letting you stall and build up your backline while your opponent sits around helplessly waiting for defeat.

Again, this feels more like a fun deck to play against friends or in casual matches over climbing the ranked ladder, as there are far better Psychic-type decks you can be using, including the standard Giratina ex and Darkrai ex build. Though I’d love to be proven wrong by someone in the comments who has a better deck list than what I put together, to wipe the floor with my opinion.

So leave your thoughts and deck lists in the comments for me and others to try!
