Beetlejuice Beetlejuicewill easily be Michael Keaton’s most successful movie as the star reaches a career box office record. Keaton has become one of the biggest stars of his generation after being in the acting industry for roughly 49 years. During that time, the award-winning actor has portrayed many iconic characters, including Batman, Vulture, and Betelgeuse. While Keaton found moderate success with the last few movies,Beetlejuice Beetlejuicehas dominated the box officesince its releaseand even broke many records in the last few weeks.

This milestone comes as the legacy sequel reaches $337 million globally at the box office, becoming his seventh highest-grossing movie of all time. It will likely take the sixth spot soon as it closes in onDumbo’s $353 million global total.

Why This Box Office Feat Is Important For Michael Keaton & For Beetlejuice Beetlejuice

Burton Made The Right Decision To Put The Sequel Into Theaters Over Streaming.

This milestone for Keaton is atestament to the popularity of theBeetlejuicefranchise with audiences, even with a 36-year gap. Betelgeuse is considered one of the actor’s most iconic roles and even helped boost his career by becoming a frequent collaborator of director Tim Burton. Since then,Keaton-starring movieslikeBatman,Batman Returns, andSpider-Man: Homecominghelped push for this remarkable $7 billion milestone. However, this record for the Oscar winner was nearly missed hadBeetlejuice Beetlejuicegone straight to streaming.

~$100M

$337M

A recent report and comments from Warner Bros. Entertainment CEO Pamela Abdy revealed that the legacy sequel nearly became an exclusive Max movie. This makes sense given that Burton’s track record has been inconsistent in recent years, yet the director was asking $147 million for the movie’s budget. Since Burton wanted the theatrical release,he compromised with Warner Bros. to cut $48 million from the budget. This decision paid off, as the movie is now rocking theaters and already making a profit in its third week.

Our Take On The Box Office Milestone

This Makes Up For Last Year’sThe Flash.

While I wasn’t a huge fan ofBeetlejuice Beetlejuice, I’m glad to see that the sequel is making a lot of money at the box office since it defied so many odds. He was one of the movie’s best parts, replicating the exuberant energy of Betelgeuse as he did in 1988. Furthermore, it’s worth mentioning that this is the big blockbuster that Keaton deserves, given thatlast year’sThe Flashwas marred with so many problemsthat it didn’t reach its box-office potential. While his reprisal as Batman couldn’t save the movie, his return as the bio-exorcist came with a reward.

This doesn’t end Keaton’s run at the box office this year, as he has one more movie withGoodrich, also starring Mila Kunis. While the film won’t makeBeetlejuice Beetlejuicenumbers, it will at least help extend his overall box office record.
