The upcomingPlayStation 5 Projust had more detailsrevealed at a technical presentation hosted by Mark Cerny. In addition to revealingthe controversial $700 price tagfor the upgraded console, the eight-minute presentation also revealed a host of games that will be getting PS5 Pro support upon the console’s launch on June 10, 2025. Although initial reception from PlayStation gamers was icy at best, the slated graphical enhancements should make the gaming experience more even for those striving for a steady 60 frames per second.

In addition to a 2TB SSD standard, the new PS5 Pro will have an upgraded GPU and boasts 45% faster rendering for gameplay, taking the typical 30 FPS experience up to 60 FPS for games. The new GPU not only allows for an enhancement in gameplay fidelity generally, but the PS5 Pro also has AI upscaling and Advanced Ray Tracing to help bring things to the next level.

Some Of The Best Titles In Recent Memory

A plethora of different tiles were revealed for the PS5 Pro toward the end of the eight-minute presentation. Unsurprisingly, a bulk of the games featured are newer titles that currently boast some of the highest fidelity visuals in the PlayStation catalog. Some standouts include the multi-award-winningThe Last of Us Part 2to the community-favorite grandfather of the soulslike genre,Demon Souls. Although many games were featured across the presentation,a total of 12 games were officially announced as being able to leverage the new tech in the PS5 Pro.

PS5 Pro will also have what is known as PS5 Pro Game Boost, which can stabilize the performance and improve image quality for both PS4 and PS5 games. Thisfunctionality can be applied to over 8,500 backward-compatible PS4 games. Other games, likeStar Wars Jedi: SurvivorandControl, were featured at the front end of the presentation, generally celebrating the graphics of the PS5, but these have not been confirmed to have the updated capability with the new PS5 Pro.

PlayStation game developers have been preparing for this change since earlier in the year whenleaks of the PS5 Prostarted. This indicates that it’s possible more than these 12 listed games will have the Enhanced designation when the console releases in November. Over the PS5’s lifespan so far, there have been a multitude of other high-fidelity games that could take advantage of the Pro’s new technical capabilities.

PlayStation Will Institute The PS5 Pro Enhanced Label

Games Must Meet Certain Requirements

Sony introduced the Enhanced label for PS4 Pro games when the console was released in 2016. The company plans to repeat this as PS5 games must reach certain requirements in order to obtain the new designation. According to reporting fromInsider Gaming, in order for games to fully leverage the PS5 Pro technology, they must be able to use PlayStation’s Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) to upscale resolution to 4K, maintain a constant 60FPS, and add or increase ray tracing effects.

Preorders for the PS5 Pro open on July 23, 2025.

From a competitive gameplay experience, PS5 Pro could also help in other ways. The 60 FPS standard on games is a huge boon to begin with, but the console will also be Wi-Fi 7 capable — a recent upgrade that’s able to achieve speeds higher than 5 Gbps due to its use of 320 MHz channels, which are twice the size of previous Wi-Fi generations. Although people will need a modem and internet that are compatible with the new technology, it provides a viable alternative to wired gaming for those who want to climb ranked modes in their favorite games.

Best PS5 Games Of 2024 (So Far)

2024 has only just begun, but the PS5 is already off to an incredible start, delivering a number of must-play titles in a variety of genres.

Overall, though thePlayStation 5 Prodoes come with better hardware and greater capability that will generally improve the gameplay experience, critics of the high price tag aren’t necessarily wrong in skipping the console this time around. What perhaps is more interesting is that people should expect most if not all of these capabilities in the next generation of consoles, the PlayStation 6, as well as Microsoft’s alternative (ifXbox doesn’t forgo consoles altogether).
