Marvelrevealed its sizable cast forAvengers: Doomsday, but a surprising statistic regarding the character roster has me convinced that more names could be announced soon. On March 26, Marvel Studios announced thecast forAvengers: Doomsdayvia a livestream lasting for over five hours. The announcement included 27 set chairs with the names of cast members, which included several familiar names, such as Chris Hemsworth and Sebastian Stan, but also many surprises, like Ian McKellen, Alan Cumming, and Rebecca Romijn.
It’s a stacked cast, including characters from many Marvel teams, like the Thunderbolts, The Fantastic Four, and the X-Men. While 27 characters is a lot, directors Joe and Anthony Russo proved they can handle a massive roster inAvengers: Infinity WarandEndgame. However, it does feel like many characters are missing. The MCU is vast, and looks even larger when characters from the multiverse are also factored in. After discovering an interesting statistic about the cast, I’m confident that there are more characters inDoomsdaythat Marvel hasn’t announced yet.

48% Of Avengers: Doomsday’s Characters Come From A Different Universe Or Alternate Timeline
Avengers: Doomsdaywill be a multiverse event, and is seemingly set to feature clashes between characters from the MCU, the Fox Universe, and The Fantastic Four’s universe. It’s unclear how Doctor Doom ties into this, but it will be exciting to see all these characters spanning generations of Marvel filmmaking appear in the same film. However, I have realized that only about half of this cast comes from the main MCU. Thirteen characters out of the twenty-seven announced are from the multiverse, meaning a smaller percentage of MCU characters will be featured in this film.
Several of these characters come fromthe Fox X-Men universe, and The Fantastic Four will arrive from a universe we haven’t seen yet. Channing Tatum’s Gambit was introduced to us in the Void, suggesting his origins were in a separate X-Men universe. Even Tom Hiddleston’s Loki is the version that escaped the Avengers and created a different timeline. I know this film’s story will be tied heavily with the multiverse, but I can’t believe only 14 characters from the main MCU timeline will appear inDoomsday.

I’m Convinced More Characters From The Main MCU Will Appear In This Film
Avengers movies used to be smaller thanDoomsday, but the MCU is so massive now that these films have to include a significant amount of characters. 14 MCU characters feels like a small number considering how vast the universe has become, and several significant characters are missing from the announcement.TheAvengers: Doomsdaycast doesn’t include Doctor Strange, Ms. Marvel, Hulk, Wong, Hawkeye, Captain Marvel, or any of the Eternals. Spider-Man’s absence isn’t entirely surprising either, sinceSpider-Man: Brand New Dayreleases shortly afterDoomsday.
Monica Rambeau is also a notably missing character, since - in apost-credit scene fromThe Marvels- Monica is last seen trapped in another universe with Kelsey Grammer’s Beast, who is inDoomsday. Unless this was a different version of Beast, it’s confusing how Beast is in the story, but not Rambeau. Additionally, characters like Wong, Captain Marvel, and Hulk would want to join the Avengers in a gigantic multiversal clash. The cast forAvengers: Doomsdayis impressive, but - taking everything into consideration - I wouldn’t be surprised if more characters from the main MCU join the film.
