After the ending ofLokiseason 2, I think oneMCUhero is perfectly primed to replace Nick Fury by bringing together a new Avengers team for the Multiverse Saga. Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury has been central to the development of the MCU since the very beginning, as he first approached Tony Stark as the Director of SHIELD in 2008’sIron Man. In recent years, however, we’ve seenNick Fury go through a bit of a rough patch, which makes me think that Marvel may be setting up another character to take his place.

Nick Fury’s disappointing appearances in2023’sSecret InvasionandThe Marvelshave thrown his prominence in Phase 6’sAvengerscrossover movies into jeopardy. Fury had a key role in bringing together the original Avengers team back in 2012, andI think a new MCU hero has been set up to take on this role for a new version of the superhero group inAvengers: DoomsdayandSecret Wars. I’d love to seeLokiseason 2’s narrativecontinue in this way, particularly since this could answer niggling questions and explain unresolved mysteries from the Multiverse Saga.

Loki Season 2 Left Mobius’ Future In The MCU Uncertain

Owen Wilson Debuted As Mobius In Loki On Disney+

Owen Wilson’s Mobiusis one of my favorite recent additions to the MCU, acting as the perfect ally to Tom Hiddleston’s Loki in his self-titled Disney+ series. I was thrilled to see Mobius return, less indoctrinated by the Time Variance Authority, in 2023’sLokiseason 2, butI’m worried about Mobius' future in the MCU, as Marvel hasn’t yet confirmed his return. The changing of the TVA, the near-destruction of the multiverse and Loki’s own sacrifice in season 2, however, have left Mobius feeling somewhat directionless and without purpose in the MCU.

Mobius was, at one time, one of the TVA’s most loyal and effective analysts, but teaming up with Hiddleston’s Loki and embarking on the quest to findSophia Di Martino’s Sylviebegan to break the TVA’s hold on him. He soon became a staunch ally to Loki, helping to change the TVA’s status quo and save the multiverse, butthe high of this journey and the revelation of his life on the Sacred Timeline left him feeling meaningless at the end ofLokiseason 2. I think there is one clear way that Mobius can find some importance, however.

I Want Mobius To Form A Multiversal Avengers Team In Phase 6

Mobius Can Bring Together A Team Of Heroes In The Multiverse Saga

At the end ofLokiseason 2, Mobius seemed to task himself with tracking down and quelling thevariants of Kang the Conquerorthat then posed a significant threat to the multiverse.Jonathan Majors' Multiverse Saga villain has since been replaced, however, leaving Mobius' next steps unclear. With the threat of Doctor Doom looming, I reckon the best way for Mobius to be brought back would be for him to bring together a new team of heroes to fight these battles under his tutelage, which I could see mirroring Nick Fury’s role in the MCU’s Phase 1.

Loki Season 2 Ending Explained

Loki season 2’s finale is massive for the MCU as well as for the God of Mischief who’s found his ultimate glorious purpose while saving the TVA.

The formation of amultiversal Avengers team has been heavily theorizedin the lead-up toAvengers: DoomsdayandSecret Warsin 2026 and 2027, respectively. These theories became even more prominent after reports that Chris Evans would return to the MCU, while there are many other candidates who could also join Mobius' Multiverse Saga Avengers team.Mobius proved himself to be very interested in the lives of superheroes inLokion Disney+, so I would love to see him take on a mentorship role for a new superhero team, just as Nick Fury did in Phase 1.

Why Mobius Is The Perfect Nick Fury Figure For A Multiversal Avengers Team

Nick Fury was a key component in forming theMCU’s original Avengers team, as he brought together the individual heroes following Loki’s attack on SHIELD and stealing of the Tesseract. Fury then acted as a benefactor for the team prior to his faked death inCaptain America: The Winter Soldier, though returned to inspire them at Hawkeye’s home inAvengers: Age of Ultron.Despite having such a prevalent role back then, however, Nick Fury has recently been involved in some disappointing projects in the MCU, which means Marvel might second guess bringing him back in Phase 6.

Main Cast

Whether he comes back or not, Nick Fury’s impact on the MCU’s Earth is undeniable, and I would love to see Mobius have the same effect across the entire multiverse, which the TVA now works to protect and sustain.Mobius helped to transform both Loki and Sylvie into heroes, so could easily do the same for variants of iconic MCU characters from alternate realities. Mobius taking on this role could make him even more important than Nick Fury, and I could see this setting up Owen Wilson to have a bright, lengthy and purpose-driven role in the MCU’s future.

Who Could Be In Mobius’ Multiversal Avengers Team In Doomsday & Secret Wars?

Mobius Could Recruit Several Iconic Multiversal Heroes

Avengers: DoomsdayandSecret Warsare fully expected to bring together several different Avengers teams, and I would love for one of these to be a multiversal superhero team. I’d be even happier if this group was brought together by Mobius, and his position in the TVA makes it much easier for him to pull this off.The recentTVAtie-in comic series has already pulled off something similar on the page, bringing together a group of powerful superhero variants, so I reckon this could hint at a possible line-up for the team in the live-action MCU.

Avengers:DoomsdayandSecret Warscould also include the likes of a new mainstream Avengers team, the Young Avengers, the West Coast Avengers and possibly an evil Avengers team, as well as other teams such as the Guardians of the Galaxy, the Fantastic Four, the Thunderbolts and more.

Marvel Comics’TVAstory includes Captain Carter, who has recently had a prominent role inWhat If…?, Gambit, who Channing Tatum brought to life inDeadpool & Wolverine, and Spider-Gwen, a variant of Gwen Stacy, who will soon appear inYour Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Manseason 2.TVA #3also confirmed that a variant of the Scarlet Witch is being held captive in the TVA, which has spurred speculation that this isElizabeth Olsen’s hero-turned-villain from the MCU. This would form the foundations for an incredible multiversal Avengers team in the live-action MCU.

10 MCU Heroes Who Have Already Saved The Multiverse Years Before Secret Wars

Avengers: Secret Wars is expected to see Earth’s Mightiest Heroes save the multiverse, but several MCU heroes have already accomplished this mission.

IfChris Evans is set to return to the MCU, it would be great to see a variant of Captain America in Mobius' team, perhaps joining the likes of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Men and more. Theories also suggest pastFantastic Fourmovie actors will return, while variants from Earth-10005, the universe of 20th Century Fox’sX-Menfranchise, could also be included.I thinkAvengers: DoomsdayandSecret Warshave the opportunity to debut the strongest Avengers team ever brought to the screen, and, afterLokiseason 2, Mobius is the perfect hero to bring this team together.
