The wait for an update on the development ofHollow Knight: Silksonghas become agonizing at this point. Its initial reveal in 2019 felt too good to be true, as it came only 2 years after the originalHollow Knightlaunched, which itself had received consistent DLC support over the following 18 months. Nevertheless, theannouncement ofSilksonginevitably caused huge excitement and anticipation among players, who have since been eagerly awaiting a chance to dive into the brand-new kingdom as the fan-favorite character Hornet.

Unfortunately, updates on development progress forSilksonghave been scarce, to say the least.Any showcase ofSilksongsince its initial reveal has been wildly unpredictable, and it’s common for there to be huge spaces of time between each update. Now, as players suffer through yet another period of dormancy, the ongoing silence could begin to cause concern among fans overSilksong’s current progress.

Silksong Hasn’t Been Showcased In 900 Days

The Long Wait Could Cause Concern Among Fans

As of today, November 28th, it’s been 900 days sinceSilksonggameplay was last showcased during theXbox presentation at E3 2022.The showcase came with the announcement of a 2023 release, which was a sure relief for fans who had been waiting over 3 years at that point. However, Team Cherry would later walk back from this release window as the team continued to wrestle withSilksong’s huge scope. The radio silence since this delay has been especially devastating, as players were once so close to experiencing what theHollow Knightsequel has to offer.

After 5 Years, I’m Done Waiting For Hollow Knight: Silksong

Over five years after Hollow Knight: Silksong was announced, I think it’s time to stop building up the expectations around its eventual release.

Silksong’s lengthy development period is hardly surprising, sinceTeam Cherry has emphasized the sheer size of the game from the beginning. The initial reveal trailer, for example, made sure to showcaseSilksong’s wealth of new additions, with over 150 unique enemies, a new tool crafting mechanic, and Hornet’s diverse, acrobatic moveset.Silksongis looking to be far more ambitious thanHollow Knight, and with such a small team working on the game, a lengthy wait for the game’s release was inevitable.

That being said, concern overSilksong’s current progress has continued to grow as time goes on without any sort of update. A lack of communication can cause worry among fans over the game’s current state or any potential issues that Team Cherry could be facing and how that could affectSilksong’s release.

Could 2025 Be When Silksong Finally Gets An Update?

Another Update Could Pair Up With Another Major Release

While it’s unlikely that we’ll hear any news from Team Cherry before the end of the year,2025 could be the perfect opportunity forSilksongto make another appearance. Another showcase in 2025 would do wonders to calm any worries or concerns overSilksong’s development. Even if no concrete details are given on release, confirmation that development is progressing smoothly will greatly assure players thatSilksongis closer to completion.

A new showcase could also coincide with the inevitableNintendo Switch 2 revealto conjure even more excitement for the game.Silksonghas been closely tied with Nintendo, with the Switch being the first platform confirmed to support the game outside of PC, while the company has showcased the indie title during its own Nintendo Treehouse streams. Since the Switch 2 will supportSilksong, even if it’s only through backward compatibility, the console reveal would be a great time to provide an updatewhile reiterating the many systems the game will be available on upon launch.

When Switch 2 Releases, Nintendo Must Do This One Thing To The Switch To Let Its New Console Succeed

The Nintendo Switch 2 runs the risk of being limited in its potential if Nintendo insists on supporting the original Switch for much longer.

Of course, an update will only come when Team Cherry is ready to share more with players. While the lengthy wait can be frustrating, it’s important that the development team is allowed the time to ensureSilksongreaches the heights that it is definitely capable of. If the originalHollow Knightis anything to go by,Hollow Knight: Silksongwill be yet another memorable Metroidvania that showcases the immense level of talent Team Cherry possesses.
