WithResident Alienseason 4 confirmed and on the way, speculation can begin in earnest regarding what will happen when the story continues. Theending ofResident Alienseason 3provided several cliffhangers, although some were much more dramatic than others. While some prospective season 4 events may seem inevitable, others can only be gently implied by recent events. Regardless,Resident Alienseason 4 is bound to be an action-packed affairthat’s dense with exciting plots.

Resident Alienseason 3’s reduced episode count suggested it would be the show’s final run, but after a network switch, the story of Alan Tudyk’s Harry Vanderspeigle will carry onfor at least another season. TheResident Aliencastwill likely remain largely the same in season 4, although it would be surprising if one or two new figures didn’t also enter the fray to keep things fresh. Either way, it’s set to be a brilliantly bumpy ride.

Resident Alien Season 4: Confirmation, Cast, Move To USA & Everything We Know

The quirky sci-fi series Resident Alien raised the stakes in its third season, and its moving to a new home on the USA network for season 4.

9Harry Vanderspeigle Will Escape From The Greys Almost Immediately In Resident Alien Season 4

Resident Alien can’t leave its main character sidelined for too long

Resident Alienseason 3’s finale,“Homecoming,” concluded with Tudyk’s character trappedaboard theGrey’sStar Wars-inspired moon shipalong with his child, Bridget. With the shapeshifting Mantid taking Harry’s place on Earth, it may be a while before anyone notices he’s even missing. However, the reveal of Harry being impersonated by the nefarious Insectoid has already been and gone.

Tudyk’s character may not be able to immediately return to Earth, but it’s unlikely Harry will accept his fate and remain imprisoned by the Grey Aliens.

So,Resident Alienseason 4 can’t get away with leaving the real Harry sidelined for too long. An incarcerated main character can work well in some scenarios, but the wayResident Alienseason 3 ended, leaving Harry and Bridget trapped for too long would make for some very dull storytelling. Tudyk’s character may not be able to immediately return to Earth, but it’s unlikely Harry will accept his fate and remain imprisoned by the Grey Aliens.

8Max Hawthorne Will Be Held Captive By The Mantid

Resident Alien season 4’s new villain can masquerade as Max to cover for his absence

Max was last seen being forced to apologize to “Harry” at the end ofResident Alienseason 3. When it turns out that Max is actually knocking on the Mantid’s door,Resident Alienseason 4’s new villainpresumably took action to avoid Max escaping and spreading the word. One possible solution would be for the Mantid to kill Max, as the bad guy has already proven to be capable of murder. However, this would be an incredibly dark twist for a show likeResident Alien.

Max has a rare genetic mutation that allows him to see through the human disguise of all aliens.

What’s far more likely is that the Mantid will kidnap Max (and possibly Sahar, who was with Max at the time), and return periodically to Patience to try and convince Max’s parents and the other residents that nothing is amiss. In fact, the Mantid taking other characters' forms in general could be a frequent occurrenceinResident Alienseason 3, which has the potential to become very confusing - but in a way that makes the plot more compelling.

7Sheriff Mike Will Join The Fight Against The Greys In Resident Alien Season 4

The sheriff of Patience, Colorado has always staunchly opposed the existence of alien life, despite his deputy having the exact opposite opinion. At the end ofResident Alienseason 3, Mike’s encounter with the corpse of a Grey Alien means he no longer has the luxury of denying life from beyond the stars. He’s very much a character who’ll only believe something once he’s seen it with his own eyes, and now that has happened, there’s no going back.

It wouldn’t make any sense from a narrative perspective for Mike to deny what he saw.

The threat of the Greys is far from dispelled at the end of season 3, so it’d be very surprising if they just vanished from the story. WhileSheriff Mike has no experience fighting extraterrestrials, he’s now another soldier in the ongoing war with the Greys. It wouldn’t make any sense from a narrative perspective for Mike to deny what he saw, and seeing as he’d pretty much be the last main character outside the inner circle if he did, it would be difficult to include him as part of the plot ofResident Alienseason 4.

6Resident Alien Season 4 Will Continue To Introduce New Alien Races

Harry is long overdue for more extraterrestrial company

Harry’s unnamed species and the Greys were the only two alien races in the show for a long time. Given the scale of theResident Alienuniverse, that didn’t really make much sense. Thankfully,Resident Alienseason 3 ramped up the variety of aliensin the show, making it deserve its sci-fi genre label much more.Aliens like the Mantid and the Blue Avians enrichedResident Alien’s worldbuilding, so it would make sense for the increase in new species to continue.

Other races have been mentioned at a convention inResident Alienseason 1, episode 9, “Welcome Aliens,” but most have not yet been shown onscreen.

The member of the unnamed blue alien species at the beginning of the season 3 finale is an example of another alien race that could be expanded upon in the coming season. His appearance is brief, and another of his species may never appear again. However, his fleeting presence arguably provesResident Alien’s intention to flesh out the communities of the show’s interplanetary civilizations.

5Kate Hawthorne Will Continue To Be Abducted By The Greys

Kate’s abductions have long been a part ofResident Alien’s story, and the same is true of the abductions of her husband, Ben. Although Ben had his chip removed to prevent himself from being abducted again, Kate opted to retain hers so she would continue to be taken to the Greys' ship and visit their child - even if she couldn’t ever remember the encounters. Despite the triumphant escape of D’arcy, Asta, and Fake Harry from the Greys' moon base,Kate’s most recent return to Earth is likely only temporary.

Resident Alien Season 4’s Story Risks Undoing One Huge Part Of Season 3’s Ending

Resident Alien season 3 ended with several huge plot points, but the arc of one character could take a backward step in the coming instalment.

While the Hawthorne baby was heroically liberated from the Greys by D’arcy, and Kate arguably has no reason to go back, keeping her chip in place gives her and the others a direct line to the Greys' ship. Therefore,Kate could choose to continue to be abducted while she formulates a planwith Ben and the others to take down the nefarious aliens who have hauntedResident Alien’s narrative for so long.

4Everyone Will Learn That Harry Vanderspeigle Is An Alien

It’s unclear how the remaining Resident Alien characters who don’t already know will take the news

There are now very fewResident Aliencharacters left who don’t know about Harry’s true nature. However, now that almost every main member of the cast has no choice but to believe in aliens,it would make sense for Harry to reveal who he really isto everyone who doesn’t already know. It will take the combined efforts of everyone to take down the Greys and the other villains - like the Mantid - so Harry will need to explain who he is and how he possesses the knowledge he has.

Harry keeping his true identity under wraps now has very little benefit, although there could be one massive downside to telling the truth.

Harry keeping his true identity under wraps now has very little benefit, although there could be one massive downside to telling the truth. When Mike finds out that Harry is an alien, it won’t take him long to also discover that Alan Tudyk’s character murdered the real Harry Vanderspeigle. As Patience’s sheriff,Mike is incredibly unlikely to just let this go, which would cause friction or even violence between the two characters.

3Heather Won’t Reunite With Harry In Resident Alien Season 4

Edi Patterson’s Blue Avian character was one of the best additions toResident Alienseason 3, and her departure came far too soon. As Harry’s first real love interest, she also revealed a lot about Tudyk’s character. Her return would be a welcome component ofResident Alienseason 4. Unfortunately, it doesn’t make sense for her to pop up again in the story just yet.

There’s also the matter of the Mantid possibly taking Heather’s form if she comes back too soon, and the villain could use her Galactic Federation Council credentials to flee deeper into the universe.

Heather’s betrayal of Harry in season 3 and subsequent exit from the show came due to being blackmailedby the Greys - an enemy still incredibly prevalent going intoResident Alienseason 4. As such, she would essentially be sentencing her family to death if she were to come back before the Greys are defeated, and that won’t be an easy task. There’s also the matter of theMantid possibly taking Heather’s formif she comes back too soon, and the villain could use her Galactic Federation Council credentials to flee deeper into the universe.

2Resident Alien Season 4 Will Have A Much Wider Scope

The showrunner has suggested Resident Alien season 4 won’t focus on Patience quite so much

Resident Alienseason 4 may not be set entirely in Patience, Colorado. Showrunner Chris Sheridan has teased as much while speaking at WonderCon 2024 (viaThe Direct): “They’re not being abducted because they live in Patience; they just are being abducted because they’re human beings on Earth.” Granted, it’s not the most solid of teases, but Sheridan raises an interesting point. There’s nothing particularly special about Patience, so it wouldn’t make sense if the Greys restricted themselves to abducting humans from such a specific location.

More locations will only benefitResident Alienseason 4’s story.

Given the global threat the Greys present, a more fitting setting forResident Alienseason 4 would be far more corners of Earth rather than one small town in Colorado. The show stepped outside of Patience before, when Harry and Asta headed to New York inResident Alienseason 2, resulting in one of the best arcs to date. So, more locations will only benefitResident Alienseason 4’s story.

1Resident Alien Season 4 Will Return To Its Murder Mystery Formula From Season 1

Mike & Liv may have a few murders to solve in Resident Alien season 4

Sheridan has also addressed the Mantid continuing his killing streak intoResident Alienseason 4. Speaking withTV Line, the showrunner pointed out thatMike and Liv haven’t had to solve a murder in a while, and that, “Maybe it’s the right time.” Mike and Liv’s detective skills were put to full use inResident Alienseason 1 when the mystery ofwho killed Dr. Sam Hodges was at the forefront of the story.

Resident Alien’s Season 4 Renewal Breaks An Alan Tudyk Record That’s Stood For A Decade

Alan Tudyk has had a long-running, successful career so far, and Resident Alien season 4 being confirmed means the actor can add to his accolades.

Since then, Sheridan is right. Patience’s sheriff and his deputy haven’t especially been caught up in hunting down murderers. The Mantid is sure to leave a bloody trail in this wake, so it would make sense if the coming season were to feel much more like the show’s inaugural run, only with far more murders to solve. If so,Resident Alienseason 4 could return the dramedy to its murder mystery roots.
