Warning: This article contains spoilers for Hellbound season 2.
Although there hasn’t been an announcement aboutHellboundbeing renewed, there’s already an abundance of theories regarding what could be in store for a potential third season. After a three-year-long wait,Hellboundseason 2 was finally added to Netflix’s library. The second season of the hitNetflix original Korean dramawas just as intense as its first season and added even more mysteries regarding its creatures and mythology.
Hellboundseason 2 didn’t exactly end on a cliffhanger in the way that season 1 did, but there are some aspects of the sophomore season that set the show up for another installment.Hellboundseason 2 had various unanswered questions, which could be frustrating since it took three years for season 2 to be released. However, it’s in the nature of cosmic supernatural horror projects to not explain everything. So ifHellboundseason 3 were to happen, it could delve into some of the mysteries that weren’t solved in the sophomore season of the show.

8The Origins Of The Angels Will Finally Be Explained
Hellboundseason 2 explained the origins of the monsters. However, where the angels came still remains a mystery. InHellbound, the angels are the supernatural beings in the series that tell characters when they’ll die and that they are bound for Hell. Other than this, not much was revealed about them in the two seasons ofHellbound. Since the origin of the monsters was revealed in the finale ofHellboundseason 2, season 3 of the Netflix original K-drama can delve into where the angels come from.
So far, it’s not clear if theangels and demons inHellboundwere only targeting people because of divine intervention or if the prophecy and attacks were random occurrences. Seeing that the monsters were once humans, the question remains if that is also the case for the angels. It’s possible that the angels are extraterrestrial beings who come from an alternate dimension, given that Jin-su told Jeong-ja that he was taken to some other world.

7More People Will Be Resurrected In Hellbound
In the season finale ofHellboundseason 1, Jeong-ja was resurrected after spending eight years in Hell. Four years after Jeong-ja’s resurrection, Jin-su was also brought back to life. Jeong-ja and Jin-su were not the only ones who were resurrected inHellbound. Bae Young-jae and Song So-hyun’s baby was also brought back. The reason why these characters and not the millions of others who were subjected to the demonstration were resurrected isn’t clearly stated in the show.
Hellbound Cast & Character Guide
Hellbound is a Netflix fantasy series that explores the effects of horrific supernatural events on modern society. Who are Hellbound’s main players?
However, given the mass decrees seen at the end ofHellboundseason 2, there’s a possibility that more people will be resurrected. Since the monsters were humans who had been brought back to life, then it follows that there would be a mass resurrection, given that that’s the way that the monsters who carry out the decree are created. More people being revived ties in with Jeong-ja’s prophecy about the world ending. If everyone in the world became a monster or an angel, it would mean the world had ended, just like Jeong-ja had said it would.

6The World Will Ultimately End
Hellboundseason 2 concludedwith several people receiving the prophecy that told them when they would die. Although the characters in the show had different decrees, the endgame of the mass decrees and demonstrations is to wipe out humanity. WhileHellboundseason 1 and 2 had been building up to this moment, the sophomore season didn’t show humanity being wiped off of the face of the earth. IfHellboundseason 3 were to happen, then it’s possible that it would be about the moments leading up to doomsday.
The mass decrees, demonstrations, and resurrections all point to the end of the world. The humans inHellbounddidn’t know much about the powers these supernatural beings possessed, which made it difficult for them to fight back. If the humans don’t find a way to defeat the angels and monsters inHellboundseason 3, that could very well be the end of humanity.

5Jeong Jin-su Will Not Return In Hellbound Season 3
The last three episodes ofHellboundseason 1 focused on the world that Jin-su had created after being subjected to the demonstration. InHellboundseason 1, it was revealed that Jin-su had received the decree that meant that he was hellbound. He created a new religion, the New Truth, in order to understand why he was bound for Hell despite not doing anything wrong in his life. The day the decree had prophesied arrived, and he was dragged to Hell by three hulking monsters.
Why Jeong Jin-su Was Recast In Hellbound Season 2
Jeong Jin-su was recast for Hellbound season 2, with Kim Sung-cheol replacing Yoo Ah-in after the latter was dropped from the show on March 2023.
InHellboundseason 2, Jin-su was resurrected, but he was a completely different person compared to who he was before being resurrected. Following his resurrection, the former chairman of the New Truth began to hallucinate and see the executors who had taken him to Hell every time he looked in the mirror. He went in search of Jeong-ja who he hoped would help him understand why he was having the hallucinations, but she couldn’t help him because she wasn’t going through the same thing. In the finale ofHellboundseason 2, Jin-su is transformed into an executor.

Jin-su has likely completed his story and served his purpose inHellbound. He created a new religion that changed the world order, and it was thanks to him that humans discovered where the executors came from. Given that Jin-su is an executor, there just doesn’t seem to be a place for him inHellboundseason 3, so the chances of him returning to the show are slim. However, it’s still possible for Jin-su to be inHellboundseason 3 if the show were to have a new storyline for him.
4Park Jeong-ja Might Turn Into An Angel
Park Jeong-ja went through the demonstration in the third episode ofHellboundseason 1. She was in Hell for eight years before being resurrected in thefinal episode ofHellboundseason 1. After her resurrection, Jeong-ja was abducted by the New Truth, who wanted to use her to start a new doctrine that would help them have control over the world again. Her time in Hell had changed her, resulting in moments of incoherence.
WhenJeong-ja was resurrected inHellbound, she had the ability to see how someone would die. Given how Jin-su’s transformation into an executor began, it’s possible that Jeong-ja’s new ability could evolve into something more. InHellboundseason 2, Jeong-ja could only see how a person would die. With time, Jeong-ja could be able to predict the exact day and time of a character’s death, just like the angels inHellbound.

3Hellbound Season 3 Will Have Another Time Jump
Hellboundseason 1 had a time jump between the first three episodes and the last three episodes. The first three episodes ofHellboundseason 1 explored the beginning of the decrees and subsequent demonstrations. The last three episodes took place eight years after Jin-su’s demonstration and explored the impact that the New Truth and the Arrowhead had on the world.
Hellboundseason 2 also used a time jump. In the first episode of Hellbound season 2, it’s revealed that the New Truth had kept Jeong-ja for four years in their facility. The fact that Toughie was four years old in the second season ofHellboundalso shows that there was a time jump. IfHellboundseason 3 were to happen, it’s likely that it will use the same storytelling method as the first two seasons of the show. It would actually make sense ifHellboundseason 3 used a time jump if the show was going to explore the aftermath of the mass decrees.

2Jaehyeon’s Fate Will Be Explained
Jaehyeon isthe baby that survived the death decree inHellboundseason 1.Hellboundseason 2 shows a four-year-old Jaehyeon living in the Sodo facility where she is under 24 hours' surveillance. At the time, it was believed that Jaehyeon hadn’t been subjected to the demonstration, so the members of Sodo were trying to figure out how she survived. Hye-jin didn’t want Jaehyeon to grow up in such conditions, so she took the child and they began a new life.
Hellbound Recap: 12 Things You Need To Remember Before The Horror K-Drama’s Season 2
Netflix’s original K-drama, Hellbound, featured several supernatural concepts and twists that audiences need to remember before watching season 2.
Since Jaehyeon was one of the resurrected ones inHellbound, there’s a possibility that she might turn into a monster or an angel or something that hasn’t been seen in the show before. But if that doesn’t become her fate,Hellboundseason 3 could explore the resurrection process and why very little time had passed between Jaehyeon’s death and her resurrection.

1A New Religious Organization Will Replace The New Truth
Hellboundis more than just a horror K-drama. The series explores themes such as religion and how humans react to things they do not understand. When Jin-su startedthe New Truth society, he told people that those receiving decrees were sinners, which is why they were going to Hell. Jin-su was able to start a new doctrine and have a cult-like following because humans tend to turn to religion as a way of dealing with things they can’t explain.
Given that the New Truth was practically disbanded at the end ofHellboundseason 2, a new religious organization will likely take its place. The mass decrees and impending doom mean that people will be looking for a way to not only understand their fate, but find a way to cope. It’s possible that they might look to Jeong-ja since she’s the only known resurrected one for answers. This will open the door for a new religious organization to try and bring order to a world that’s in chaos.
