A promising update from 20th Century Studios boss Steve Asbell details the nextAgatha Christieadaptations and the books they’ll be adapting. The studio has seen some success adapting Christie’s work for the big screen in recent years, assigning Kenneth Branagh directing duties on top of starring as the iconic Hercule Poirot. All three Poirot moviesfrom the studio have received relatively fresh reviews on review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes and have made $612 million at the global box office, leaving the door open to more adaptations of Christie’s revered novels.

Speaking withThe Hollywood Reporter, Asbell spoke about the prospect of more adaptations of Christie’s work. He revealed thatthe next three adaptations will be based onAnd Then There Were None, Witness for the Prosecution, andMiss Marple.Asbell also said that there are “a bunch of other titles” in the works. No further details have been revealed, so it’s unclear whether Branagh will return to direct any of them. Read Asbell’s full comment below:

More, yes. We have And Then There Were None. We have Witness for the Prosecution. We’re doing Miss Marple. There’s a bunch of other titles that we’re working on. We have very close relationship with the estate.

What This Means For Future Adaptations Of Agatha Christie’s Novels

Branagh Might Not Be Back, But Exciting Newcomers Will Step Into The Spotlight

Unless the creative team makes significant changes from the books, viewers shouldn’t expect Branagh as Hercule Poirot in these announced adaptations. The detective doesn’t appear inAnd Then There Were NoneorWitness for the Prosecution, and never meets the titular Miss Jane Marple inany of Christie’s books. He might return to direct, but those chances seem less likely since he probably wouldn’t star in any of the upcoming adaptations.

Every Actress Who Played Agatha Christie’s Miss Marple, Ranked

Agatha Christie’s Miss Marple is one of the most iconic literary sleuths of all time. Here’s how the Miss Marple actresses compare.

The most intriguing tidbit of information here is the upcoming adaptation ofAnd Then There Were None. As with any ofChristie’s best works, the novel has been adapted numerous times for both the big and small screen, most notably the 1945 adaptation, which still has 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, and the 2015 limited series by the BBC starring Charles Dance. Expectations will be high, but if 20th Century Studios takes its time, it can create a thrilling project that can match or even surpass what came before.

Our Take On The Upcoming Christie Adaptations

These Projects Can Feature Amazing Casts

As a fan of Christie’sAnd Then There Were None, I’m most excited about this upcoming adaptation, as it will, like most movies based on Christie’s work, serve as a proper exhibition of talent from its ensemble cast. Branagh’s movies have so far reached high for this, as each movie involves a boastful cast full of established and up-and-coming talent, like Branagh himself as Poirot or Kyle Allenas Maxime Gerard inA Haunting in Venice. Whether or not Branagh’s returning to direct, these upcoming adaptations ofChristie’s work are highly anticipated.
