Jod and Kids in Skeleton Crew Episode 4

17Climate Controlling Satellites

They Could Be Very Dangerous

While entering the planet’s atmosphere,a collection of satellites can be shown surrounding the new world’s orbit. These appear to be for climate control. However, devices like these in theStar Warsgalaxy can be used to create major weather disturbances, as shown duringOperation Cinder following the death of Emperor Palpatine.

16Rennod’s Ghost

Donner In Reverse

Seeing the planet they believe to be At Attin, Jod is in awe that the planet actually exists in the first place, prompting him to exclaim, “Rennod’s Ghost”.“Rennod” is Donner in reverse, with Richard Donner being the director ofThe Goonies, a core inspiration forSkeleton Crew. Donner also directed the first toSupermanfilms directed by Christopher Reeve.

15Jod’s Home Planet

“Ashy Dust”

Jod Na Nawood briefly mentions his homeworld which he describes as ashy and dusty, much like this new planet the crew ofThe Onyx Cinderhave come to. As such, this is one of the first mentions of his background and history. With any luck, more will be revealed about Jod in the episodes to come.

14The Same Mural From At Attin

A Ruined Replica Of Fern’s House

Finding the ruins of a town not unlike their ownback home on At Attin, the kids find a rundown house that looks just like Fern’s. The house has the exact same layout, complete with the large mural that seems to depict the founders of the Old Republic’s “Jewel” planets, and the tree in the center of the spiral staircase, albeit very overgrown. It follows that every “Jewel” planet has a similar layout of buildings and architecture, having presumably been founded by the same beings.

13At Achrann And The Other Jewels

Names Connecting To Mythology and Ancient Kingdoms

Later in the episode,it’s eventually confirmed that this new world is known as At Achrann, a dark mirror to Attin that’s long been plagued by war between clans known as the Troik and the Hattan. Once Jod and the kids make it to this world’s Supervisor’s Tower, other Old Republic Jewel planet names are confirmed as well: At Aytuu, At Arissia, At Aravin, and At Acoda. Likewise, each name seems to be derived from mythology and ancient kingdoms.

All Pirate Pop Culture References & Easter Eggs In Star Wars: Skeleton Crew (So Far)

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew features a lot of fun Easter eggs and meta-references, particularly when it comes to pirates in real-life pop culture.

For example, Aten was the name of an aspect of the Sun God, Ra, and it’s also the name of a lost “golden city” discovered in 2021. Arissia may be derived from the ancient Roman town of Ariccia which has associations with the goddess Diana and the god Virbius. Achrann may come from Acheron, the river of woe located in Hades. At Acoda could come from Coda, the name for an ancient Indian dynasty. Likewise, At Aytuu could come from Aitu, a Polynesian word for malevolent spirits or ghosts.

Jod Mentions Homeworld in Skeleton Crew Episode 4

12Acheron Also Has Ties To Aliens

Home Of Hadley’s Hope

Acheron was also the name that the colonists of Hadley’s Hope gave the moon LV-426 in theAliens’franchise. While not named as such in the movie itself, it was revealed in the novelization by Alan Dean Foster. As such, this could very well be the inspiration for At Achrann as well.

11SM-33’s Faulty Memory

A Lot Like BEN From Treasure Planet

SM-33’s inability to remember At Attin inSkeleton Crewresembles BEN fromTreasure Planet, an old robot whose memory of Captain Flint’s trove was similarly erased to keep others from finding it.BEN was voiced by Martin Short, who thankfully didn’t turn on Jim Hawkins like SM-33 did when his own memory was restoredas seen at the end ofSkeleton Crewepisode 4.

10Kids Battling Adults

A Nod To Yoda (And Perhaps Peter Pan)

Wim asking Hayna if she’s part of a group of kids fighting adults for control of the planet could be a nod to Yoda’s adventuresin 2015’sStar Warscomics series by Jason Aaron, featuring the small Jedi Grandmaster encountering a planet where kids were indeed at war with the adults. However,It could also be a reference toPeter Panwith the Lost Boystaking on Captain Hook and his crew across Neverland.

9General Veers' Helmet

Worn By A Hattan Soldier

Shown marching with multiple soldiers and a herd of stolen creatures from the Troik, one of the Hattan is wearing a familiar helmet from the original trilogy. This is the helmet of General Veers, who was aboard the AT-AT that destroyed the Rebellion’s shield generator on Hoth, as seen inThe Empire Strikes Back.

8More From The Star Wars Holiday Special

Holo-Entertainment

Going through the kids' things aboardThe Onyx Cinder, Jod finds a holo-projecter that plays a different part of theStar Wars HolidaySpecialcompared to the one seen inSkeleton Crew’sfirst episode. It seems Neel likely brought the piece of holo-entertainment with him, the same show his siblings had been watching.
