Some characters in anime are so obscenely evil, they’re almost hard to watch while they’re on-screen. These characters are pig-headed, disrespectful, and usually, just straight-up evil. They do some of the worst things in anime, and the only thing worse than their actions themselves is the idea that they might get away with what they did. Luckily, there is a list of villainous characters who got exactly what was coming to them.
Some characters are just so ridiculously evil it’s almost laughable. While this can be frustrating to watch when these characters are at the height of their power, it just makes the story all the more exciting when the righteous hero appears to cut the villain down to size, sometimes literally. The best anime characters who are easy to hate often combine power with unspeakable cruelty, with their comeuppance being an intense moment of catharsis for fans everywhere.

Saint Charlos was one of the Celestial Dragons inOne Piece,a group of untouchable political figures who held an absurd amount of power within the World Government. While Saint Charlos himself wasn’t a real threat to the Straw Hat Pirates physically, the power he held in the world made everyone bow their heads to him metaphorically anytime he walked into a room. He got to live with nearly unchecked power, subjecting his perceived enemies to terrible treatment whenever he wanted.
Dragon Ball Daima Collides With One Piece Thanks To an Unexpected Crossover
Dragon Ball’s latest installment shares an unexpected similarity with One Piece’s ongoing arc, and it’s something fans of both series will respect.
Luffy isn’t a character to let villains just get away with their nonsense, however. When Luffy saw how Saint Charlos treated Hatchan, he couldn’t help but blow the Celestial Dragon away with one of themost satisfying punches in anime. Luffy could have used his Gum-Gum powers to hit him from far away, but he decided to walk straight up to Saint Charlos and punch him right in his teethlike a true pirate captain.

The Homunculi fromFullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhoodare some of the most evil, self-serving creations in anime. They only think about themselves and their own power, and they couldn’t care less about the people they hurt. Lust, in particular, is a vicious character willing to charm and kill her way to the top. Roy Mustang, however, couldn’t be less like her. He’s a noble, hard-working character who cares about his allies and the people he supports.
Lust’s death at the hands of Roy Mustang was incredible because of who they are as characters. Lust got her powers from her Philosopher’s Stone and bullied her enemies with it. Roy Mustang, on the other hand, worked for what he had. He was able to create a transmutation circle out of his own blood and blew Lust to smithereens when she was bullying Alphonse in one of thebest fights inFullmetal Alchemisthistory.

Overhaul is one of the most cowardly villains inMy Hero Academia. He was supposed to be a terrifying criminal syndicate leader, but as the series progressed, it was revealed that he was hiding behind the powers of Eri, a 6-year-old girl. He wanted to use Eri for her ability to rewind Quirks and take away Quirks entirely. While most villains are at least willing to fight their own battles, Overhaul would barely do that.
Deku’s fight against Overhaul is easily one of the best in the series for several reasons. Deku was finally able to stand up for Eri and was able to give Overhaul the beat-down that he deserved. With Eri’s help,Deku was able to use all of his own power without hurting himself. He used one of thestrongest Quirks inMy Hero Academialike an expert, flying through the air at 100% and delivering several punches that Overhaul deserved to receive.
There are a lot of villainous characters inDemon Slayer, but none save for Muzan himself are quite as seedy as Hantengu. He’s the former Uppermoon 4 and one of thestrongest characters inDemon Slayer, but with the help of his friends, Tanjiro was able to give Hantengu the death he deserved. Hantengu was especially vile because of his reluctance to accept his actions. He’s killedhundreds of innocent peoplebut claims he hasn’t, blaming extraneous factors to avoid taking responsibility himself.
Like Roy Mustang vs. Lust, Tanjiro couldn’t be more different. He’s a responsible young man who looks after his friends and understands the weight of his own actions. Thanks to Zenitsu’s help,Tanjiro was able to use Thunder Breathing to catch up to Hantengu and finally put an end to his terror once and for all.
Zeke Yeager is one of the most complicated characters inAttack on Titan. He starts the series as a villain before becoming something closer to an anti-hero towards the end of the series. No matter how he eventually gets classified, his slaughter of the Survey Corps is one of the most unpleasant things to watch. Hundreds of soldiers are nobly charging at him, and he couldn’t be happier picking them off brutally. Thankfully,Levi Ackermann was able to use their deaths as the perfect opportunity to slice the Beast Titan to ribbons.
8 Attack on Titan Characters Who Deserved More Screentime
Attack on Titan’s character development is phenomenal, but a handful of characters deserved far more screen time than they received.
It’sone of the bestAttack on Titanfightsand shows how invincible Zeke thinks he is.Zeke sits behind his own powers and the Titans he can control, hiding from direct conflict. That all changes when Levi is able to close the distance enough to bring him close to death, only saving him so that they can later interrogate Zeke.
Dio Brando has been the bane of the Joestar family for generations. He started with the first Joestar, Jonathan, and continued to be a thorn in their side well past his death. He finally got what was coming to him in the best part ofJoJo’s:JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Part 3: Stardust Crusaders.Jotaro Kujo is an excellent anti-hero and the perfect person to finally put a stop to Dio’s actions. When Dio comes back to life, Jotaro’s mother Holy develops a Stand which is slowly killing her due to her inability to use it.
Jotaro spendsStardust Crusadershunting Dio downto save his mother. It makes Dio’s beat down even more poetic, as Jotaro is protecting his mother in the process. Dio is an arrogant villain who only values himself. When Jotaro’s Stand, Star Platinum, is able to stop time like Dio’s, Dio can hardly believe it. It’s a satisfying beatdown of a generational villain by a son just trying to protect his mom.
Mahito is one of the most cruel villains in anime. There aren’t many more heartbreaking moments in the entire genre of entertainment than when Mahito kills Junpei right in front of Itadori. At that point in the series, Itadori had befriended the socially awkward Junpei and was starting to give him hope about the world. Mahito also befriended him, using him as a puppet to get to Itadori. Mahito was also untouchable. As one of thestrongest villains inJujutsu Kaisen, there weren’t many who were able to stand up to him.
Itadori became that character as the series progressed.Yuji was able to not only defeat Mahito, but scare him for the first time. He walked Mahito down with the coldness of someone certain in their victory, allowing Mahito to get betrayed by Pseudo-Geto like he betrayed Junpei earlier.
Betelgeuse Romane-Conti’s story is a sad one. He startedRe:Zeroas a helpful character who aided Emilia’s mother, Fortuna, before he was corrupted by the Gospel and the evil witches that control it. After he was corrupted, he became a horrible, monstrous character who subjected Rem to explicit torture when she tried to defend Subaru. He didn’t even react to his own actions, making him an irredeemable character quickly.
After a few deaths, Subaru was able to find a way to finally kill Betelgeuse. It was a much-needed death after how sadistically Betelgeuse treated both Subaru and Rem. It’s a sad end for the man who used to be Emilia’s father figure, but that man was gone after he adopted the Witch Factor that wasn’t compatible with him. The Witch Factor drove him insane, leading to the monster he is today, and eventually, his much-needed death.
2Father
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhoodis a story littered with greed. Characters within the series are never happy with what they have and instead focus on what they don’t. Father could be the worst character in this regard, constantly trying to get stronger even though he was already one of the strongest characters in the series. He waswilling to sacrifice whoeverand whatever he could to gain more power, leading to an empty life filled with a desperate need for more.
Edward finally puts a stop to his tyranny when he destroys Father’s philosopher’s stone. It’s an incredibly satisfying moment as Father finally feels the pain that he inflicted on other people. As he’s dying, Truth tells Father that “this level of despair is reserved for the boastful”, citing Father’s arrogant attitude and giving him the consequence he truly deserves.
Frieza is one of themost evil villains in anime. He’s naturally one of the strongest characters in the universe, notoriously never training untilDragon Ball Super.InDragon Ball Z,he was a tyrantwho dominated planet after planet on a whim as nobody was strong enough to stop him. Goku was the first character who could finally match Frieza in strength, and eventually defeated him when Goku unlocked the legendary Super Saiyan form for the first time in the series.
Viral Dragon Ball Theory Suggest Majin Buu Is Actually Related to a Classic Anime Villain: Here’s How
Dragon Ball Daima’s introduction of Majin Kuu has raised questions about Buu’s origin, and a theory points to Frieza as being a distant relative.
Frieza got what was coming to him in a few different ways. First, he finally met his match when the “Hope of the Universe”, who represented the will of all the people Frieza subjugated, came to defeat him. Second, he cut himself in half when he threw his Death Saucer at Goku, only to get bisected by it moments later.Goku even gave Frieza energy to get off the exploding Namek, which Frieza used to try and kill Goku once more.
